Real-world project. Beauty & The Beast is a ballet performance for Allegro Performing Arts Academy. Creating event posters and designing assets to promote the event.
Allegro Performing Arts Academy is a family-friendly dance class in Oswego that teaches young dancers traditional ballet while having the ability to perform front stage at local stages in their area. They asked me and a group of peers for an event poster design and promotional materials for their upcoming production “Beauty and the Beast” in Spring 2020. The goal is to have the design style as whimsical, fanciful, and mysterious while having a tone of professionalism. The target audience is aimed at young dancers around the age of 10-12 years old. They asked us to design social media and merchandise assets to promote the event (Ticket, Postcard and T-Shirt). We all have our design implementations and as a result, they have chosen my design as the best representation of the event and the company.

There were a couple of attempts designing and making adjustments on the ballet dancer to resemble a 12-year-old girl. For instance, added the puff sleeves, made the chest flatter, revised the arms & hands, and made the skirt of the dress full length to cover up the legs.
The first draft was a test layout with placeholder fonts on how the poster would look. The 2nd draft is when I got the assets finished. Adding the shadow that resembles the beast and placing it behind the dancer makes the poster more mysterious. The final draft was changed based on the clients’ feedback including adding the sleeves and a longer skirt on the dancer.
When it comes to promoting the event on social media specifically for Facebook and Instagram, the company wants to have the promotion as a teaser as time went on until the announcement. I cropped certain parts of the poster and added quotes from the Beauty and the Beast movie.
